Inocencio F. Arias Llamas

Spanish Ambassador

Born in Almeria, married and diplomatic since 1968.

He has been assigned to the embassies in Bolivia, Algiers and Portugal (1969-78). Back in Madrid, he was Foreign Affairs spokesman (1980-1997) in three different governments: UCD, PSOE and PP.

During the government of Felipe González, he was sub secretary and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1988-1993)

He has been Spain’s ambassador to the United Nations (1997-2004) during the Aznar government and was elected president of the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (2003-04).

He is the author of five books: “Presidents and Diplomacy”, “Three Myths of Real Madrid”, “Mis Mundiales”, “Confessions of a Diplomat,” The Backroom of Diplomacy” (with Eva Celada), and “I always thought that diplomats were suckers” (fourth edition).

He has been General Director of Real Madrid from 1993 to 1995 and has participated in international conferences and, as an actor, in thirteen films. He has thirty national and foreign decorations.

Currently, he is president of Club Siglo XXI and collaborates with the radio show “Herrera en COPE“.
